dreaming of a white july

We went up to the cabin this past week for a little rest and relaxation. We spent time doing all of the normal camping activities, i.e., four-wheeling, archery, hiking, making s'mores, etc. Tate enjoyed everything we did, but he had another activity on his list of things-to-do. Snowmobiling seems to have caught Tate's fancy, and even though "grandpa's snow" was all melted, he didn't let that stop him from enjoying an hour or two on grandpa's snowmobile. Complete with sound effects. This little guy was in heaven! If he had his way, there would be snow in July.

reluctant return

We returned last night from a blissful, extended weekend at the cabin. The whole family was there at some point. So relaxing, so fun, so needed. It's difficult to return to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. To make matters worse, the skies are gray and gloomy with lots of rain and wind throughout the day. Ho hum, take me back to the cabin!

Just returning today from a little winter getaway with my family. The snow was amazing and the weather was beautiful. I took this shot as we were driving away from the cabin. The sun was getting very low in the sky and it was just breathtaking. There's nothing like ending the year together as a family. Everyone was with us this year. So thankful to have such an awesome family that actually enjoys spending time together. What more could a mother ask for....

52 photos project {the skies above}

Ordinarily, when posting a picture of the sky, I would be tempted to show an image of a bright blue, puffy-white-cloud-filled sky or a beautiful sunset filled with oranges and yellows. But today, I chose an image of the sky above our cabin in the Uintah Mountains of Utah. The sky was a beautiful blue, but I chose to process it in subdued black, gray and cream tones. So fitting for this time of year, I think. These branches will be weighed down with heavy white snow before long, and the sky will be a darker stormy gray for sure. But until then, I will enjoy the clear days like this, when the sky seems to go on forever. 

i'm diggin' this book

I'm not one to try and sell other people on products that I love. But, in this case, I have to make an exception. I recently bought the cutest goodnight book for my grandson and he loves it. I suppose all little children love a good book to read before bedtime, but Tate is especially partial to this one. Why? I'll let these photos explain...

wildflower passion

Something you may not know about me is that I have a passion for wildflowers. Yellow ones, white ones, purple ones, it really doesn't matter what color. They are especially pretty in the early morning sunlight. I captured these babies a couple of weeks ago at our cabin. They looked so soft and dreamy. It's hard to believe they will soon be replaced by  snow. But, until then, I'm going to keep on clickin' :)

a quick over-nighter

We decided at the spur of the moment to run up to the cabin for a little overnighter. Just the two of us. Sometimes the quick trips turn out to be the best trips. The weather was beautiful and it was so relaxing. Here's just a few pics I took while I was there. I love summer!!

Surprise Storm

We planned a Memorial Day trip

to the cabin this past weekend.

When we arrived,

 the sun was shining,

the sky was blue,

and there were white fluffy clouds

floating overhead.

To be honest,

the cabin never looked so beautiful.

Until that evening.

Around dinner time

it started to snow.

At first there were just a few flurries,

but it slowly turned into more of a blizzard.

By morning,

everything was covered in a blanket of white.

It looked like the entire mountain

had been frosted with powdered sugar.

There were even icicles 

hanging from the roof.

Luckily,

we brought our own little snow shoveler 

with us on the trip.

The snow may have slowed us down a little,

but we still had a ball.

Quarter Of A Century

Today is my son-in-law's 25th birthday.

I reached back a little in the archives

to find a picture that would be suitable

for this occasion.

Just any picture of Dallin won't do.

It has to be something fun and crazy,

just like him.

Some of my friends struggle a little

with their son-in-laws.

Not me.

I love Dallin.

He adds fun and excitement to our family.

There is never a dull moment

when he is around.

I love his enthusiasm for life.

I hope you have a Happy Birthday Dallin.

P.S. I've come to the conclusion

that I need to take more photos

of the men in our family.
